We cannot find other examples of this online, however were told by the seller of it's provenance coming from a collectors home who dealt in this sort of thing. It's incredibly well made with alternating shade of wood and a very heavy top. Would have been used to hold rice and keep rodents away from it. Today it could be used for just about anything - including keeping your rice safe. A lovely piece of wooden history.
