Mid Century Blue & Clear Glass Sommerso Dish

Vintage Mid Century Deep Blue and Clear Glass Sommerso Dish. Measurements are as follows ~ 5cm Height, 6cm Opening, 8cm Base We love vintage glassware and this particular type is made using a technique called Sommerso - Italian for "submerged" Murano glassmakers used this to create two or more layers of contrasting glass without the colours mixing together, and it is formed by dipping coloured glass into molten glass of a different colour, before blowing the glass into the required form. Once upon a time, this dish would have been used as a 1960s glass ashtray, but these days they are perfect as jewellery or trinket dishes, or ornamental bowls. The combination of deep cobalt blue suspended within a clear glass edge is a pure hit of the ocean - and an instant win for us! The hugely tactile, super smooth outer shape contrasts wonderfully with clean top edge of this sculptural piece.
