We love this 1930s chest of drawers with its unusual concave moulding as part of its plinth base; a striking Deco feature. It was covered in lots of very dark and thick shellac, but we suspected there was something fabulous underneath – and there was! Hidden underneath all that dark finish we found the mellow tones of quarter sawn oak, with all its wonderful graining and natural variations . The handles cleaned up beautifully too. We've never seen handles like this and they certainly add to the uniqueness and beauty of this chest of drawers. They are a faux leather; either imitation crocodile or alligator, we think, and with all the varnish removed and, after careful cleaning, they look absolutely stunning.
